Industry groups engage Government on future of domestic heat

The inaugural meeting of the Domestic Heat Strategy Group was held recently at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, DECC. The event was Chaired by Lord Bourne, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, together with leading DECC officials, and was formed following a series of meetings between DECC and the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council, (HHIC), the leading trade association representing the full supply chain of the domestic heating sector.

The group was formed to provide a more formal link between the heating industry and Government with the mission of reducing the carbon emissions created by domestic heating, whilst offering short and long term options to help reduce homeowners' energy bills.

Stewart Clements, Director of HHIC said "Heating accounts for 65% of all domestic energy use so to reduce emissions we need to reduce the amount of energy being consumed through the deployment of energy efficiency technologies. These need to be practical, affordable and realistic and be developed with energy bill reductions in mind.

This partnership between DECC and industry allows open and frank discussions around the solutions needed to achieve our shared objectives and will provide workable options for future policy and regulation. It will be a challenge but together we can move forward."

Lord Bourne said "It was good to be able to meet with the domestic heat strategy group and I look forward to hearing more about their ideas".

Prominent manufacturers and representatives from the supply chain also attended the meeting.  The next meeting of the group will take place early in the New Year.
