Weekly column by EUA's Chief Executive

Our Gas 2015 event, held last week, was once again a successful coming together of major figures within the industry. There was plenty to think about too, arising from the speeches and importantly, the participation of the delegates in the Q&A sessions.

One thing that was very clear, and I intend to act on it, is the need to make the voice of the industry louder and clearer with policymakers. That is not just about the gas industry but also involves the heating industry too. Some parts of the sector are starting to gain a sharper focus on the future role for gas - and key messages are starting to come through. Our job is to apply these consistently in all of our communications - internally and externally.

It also means closer collaboration of industry bodies too. It is not a matter of protecting vested interest of one organisation or body but sharing knowledge and information. The future of the industry, energy policy in the UK and climate change, are all too important to not work together.

As energy matters hit the news, with National Grid issuing its first warning for years about margins on electricity supply, now is an appropriate time to make sure our policymakers fully understand what our industry is doing to keep supplies available, bills low and greenhouse gas emissions down.

Best Wishes

Mike Foster, CE
